In previously post we talk about how to get close up satellite images on the whole planet earth using Google Map and Google Earth. But if you are a looking for “out of the world” real estate than probably you want to use Google Moon and Google Mars.
Using these softwares, you can see detailed satellite images of the moon and its craters up close. There is also a listing of all the historical landmarks of location where the Apollo space ships landed on the moon.

But if you think that the above picture is not the surface of the moon and you believe that the moon is actually made out of cheese, you probably right. If you try to zoom in to close to the surface, you can see that it is actually made out of yummy cheese.
On the other hand, if you are into more reddish backyards, you can view the surface of Mars using the Google Mars. You can also see the elevation overlays and infrared images of the Mars surface. But no cheese this time.
Addition to that, you can even do a search for related locations on Mars. For example, like this search I made by querying the word “face”. Google Mars will go directly to “The Face on Mars” location.

If technology permits, probably one day we can have an application that maps the entire visible stars and galaxies. Better still if the images are real time. Then there will probably millions of people watching and monitoring the sky at a single time. That would definitely be an awesome application don’t you think?

If you want to find a reliable free softwares, Sourceforge is a good place to start. This website hosted a lot of open source software, meaning it is not just free, but you can even download the source codes if you are interested in it.
So there is should be no advertisements, no spams, no spywares and no nasty stuff that can make your pc to explode.
In the website you can see a number of software categories that you can choose from or you can use the search button to search for the software that you want. For example, ftp or telnet software and there will be a number of free open source software to choose from. These free softwares should provide all the main features and functionality for normal users.
Since it is free, you should try it first. Some of it is still ongoing development and probably have bugs. If you found such things, you may give them feedbacks. You may end up as a contributor in the development of a software that many people are using. That would be cool.

It was very exiting when Google come out with Google Map. Previously we can only see drawn maps but now we can actually see the real pictures from a satellite view of places anywhere in the world.

We can also zoom in into a considerable distance that we can even see people walking on the street. However, the satellite view is not the latest picture, they are at least a year old and for some remote places, it can be up to five years old. This is quite obvious since real time imagery may posses a threat to national security.
Other than that, Google Map also provides route planners for your driving directions, but limited to big cities in the US, Australia, Canada, Japan, etc.

Google also provide a standalone version of Google Map, called Google Earth. It can be downloaded and installed in Mac, Windows or Linux machine which it offers enhanced globe viewing features. The basic version of Google Earth is free. Whereas, there are also a Plus version that cost about $20 which have GPS supports, drawing tools and better printing capability. There is also a Pro version that cost about $400 which meant for commercial use only. It provide more detailed on each geographical area which might help businesses that requires such information.
